Culinary Job Description

Cooking is the most popular class at Greystone! That’s right - over 450 girls take cooking every session, and they love it!

What’s a Typical Day Like in the Cooking Department?

Cooking begins each class by splitting into 4 groups that rotate through the culinary studio. Campers will learn everything from knife skills, all the way to how to make their own sushi rolls. We even teach them how to use the commercial dishwasher to clean up after themselves - no aspect of the kitchen goes untouched!

As part of the Cooking staff, you will be an essential part of a close-knit team that will balance safety with fun. Our Cooking staff encourages and engages with our campers throughout the class, helping them to achieve their goals and surpass their expectations. You will love working on our Cooking staff if you enjoy encouraging those around you while also having a keen eye for safety and detail.

What are the activity teaching periods like?

For June, Main, and August Camps, we have 5 classes in the morning and two classes in the afternoon that are 40 minutes long. In Cooking, after the girls are at their perspective stations, they will receive instruction on what they will be doing that day. Once completed, the girls get to enjoy their culinary creations!

What training and certifications do I need?

Our Cooking staff participates in pre-camp training led by a local professional that focuses on teaching strategies and kitchen safety. This training will take place at Greystone.

Why Work for Us?

Greystone is so much more than just a fun summer job. Here you’ll work hard and navigate challenges in a supportive environment, growing as a leader and as a professional. Invest in your future with a summer at camp!

Are there Benefits?

Room and board, support and development, an incredible location in the mountains of North Carolina, staff giveaways (that are above and beyond the industry!), and the community of a lifetime.

Will I get paid?

Yes. Our pay is competitive with the surrounding camping industry. We also cover any outside training fees, as well as offer recruiting incentives and a $600 bonus for working all summer.

What is the time commitment?

There are two camp counselor staff options. You can be on the Full-Summer Staff or the Junior Camp Staff. Full-Summer Staff work our full 11-week summer, while Junior Camp Staff work our one-week session at the beginning of the summer.

What does time off look like?

Staff have a day off during the middle week(s) of each sessions in addition to time off in between each session. We also give our counselors additional time off during the week, as well as some evenings off throughout each session.

When do I need to be available?
